Women around the world are shamed for actions that are not their fault. They bear the heavy weight of emotional, verbal, mental and physical abuse by an intimate partner or a close male family member. The reason to bear this shame is widely to stand by the honor of the man. During modern times, though women add to the honor of the man and his family by contributing to income, status and expansion, the idea that a man’s honor is tied to her body has not changed. Should women be honored for their individual work and contribution? Should the definition of a man’s honor be redefined? Listen as we explore the value for life and why the murder of a woman’s honor can be harmful for both man and woman.
Our guest is Rana Husseini - Internationally recognized human rights activist, gender trainer and a senior journalist with more than 25 years experience in the Middle East and North Africa.
